Fall Wedding Traditions

Fall is the most popular time for weddings. The leaves are changing, the weather is cool, and the opportunities are endless. We will talk through some of the best locations in Dubuque for fall engagement and wedding photos, wedding color schemes for fall, and beautiful wedding dresses that scream fall.

Photography Fall Locations

If you are getting married in or around the Dubuque, you are in luck. Dubuque has some of the best fall locations, some of which you will remember from our previous blog. Each location has its positives to represent the fall season in your photographs.

1. Mines of Spain

You knew it was coming the Mines of Spain. When the leaves are changing this is a gorgeous spot to take engagement and wedding pictures. The scenery is gorgeous, and the views are to die for. Another plus when taking pictures in the fall, is that you won’t break a sweat going from location to location.

2. Schuster's Pumpkin Patch

A pumpkin patch is a magical place to take pictures in the fall. The options are endless here. You can take pictures in the field where you pick pumpkins or hop on the wagon ride to get a cute picture. Since we are in Iowa after all you can’t forget about getting pictures in the corn maze. This is a great place for wedding and engagement photos if you are going for a rustic/farm theme for your wedding.

3. Fenelon Place Elevator

The Fenelon Place Elevator takes you to the top of the bluffs. This is gorgeous any time of year, but in the fall, you can see the leaves changing all around Dubuque. A great opportunity for some beautiful scenery in your engagement and wedding photos.

Fall Wedding Color Schemes

Fall wedding color schemes are numerous in options. We will look at this from a bridesmaid dress and accent for tuxedo color perspective.

1. Burgundy

Burgundy is a beautiful color for your bridesmaids to wear in the wedding. It looks good on most people and will make your white dress pop because it is the bride’s day of course. The men can use the burgundy color as a tie or boutonnieres.

2. Navy

Navy is another popular color used commonly during fall weddings. It is a classic color that again looks great on many people. Your bridesmaids can wear navy dresses with silver shoes to match the palette. Then groomsmen can wear navy suits with a gray tie pulling the whole bridal party look together.

3. Burnt Orange

Burnt orange is a classic fall color that reminds you the leaves are changing. Burnt orange can be sometimes tricky to pair with other colors, but it can be done. The groomsmen can wear the burnt orange on their boutonnieres while the bridesmaid can wear burnt orange dresses.

Fall Wedding Dress Inspiration

Having a wedding provides many opportunities for wedding dresses in the fall. You can add sleeves, go strapless or have straps and be comfortable during the fall season. Ultimately pick whatever style or look that you love the most for your wedding.

1. Sleeves

Sleeves on your wedding dress will keep you looking stylish and warm. The sleeves can be lace or mesh with beautiful design work to make you look elegant. There is a lot of options on how the sleeves can look whether they are ¾ sleeve, full length, or an off the shoulder look.

2. Satin Dresses

Beautiful simple dresses are very common in the fall. Full satin dresses with little to no design really bring out the elegant beauty in the bride.

3. Lace

Another common element in fall wedding dress styles is lace. Lace adds texture and design to the dress. This adds a great simplistic look for the bride who wants a little something, but not too much. The lace can also be added onto the veil to complete the look.

These are only some of the traditional themes and looks that fall weddings have.
